Psychosynthesis psychotherapist Mark Colclough offers individual and couples therapy in Copenhagen

Meet Mark

Please see the following for an overview of my practice and education

PRACTICE

Psychotherapy in English

“… individual and couples psychotherapy in English and in Copenhagen…”

width="100" Sometimes it’s easier to convey your thoughts, emotions and experiences in English rather than in Danish. Born and raised in England, 100% fluent in both languages, along with a “felt experience” of being other than Danish in Denmark, I hope to support you on your therapeutic journey. I also offer psychotherapy over Skype for long distance client work.

Individual psychotherapy

“… for unlocking your deepest potential…”

Individual psychotherapy allows us to work from within, looking at what brings you to psychotherapy. We will establish which resources you have at your disposal and you will gain new insights into your sub-conscious patterns and challenges. You will also gain a greater awareness of your body, feelings and thoughts; grounding a better contact to the self that you already are. There is no ‘right reason’ to start psychotherapy, nor a ‘right time’. Struggling with any aspect of your life is something that psychotherapy can aid you with. If you feel you’d like to know more, send me an at mark@english-psychotherapist.dk

Acute couples counselling

“… when the crisis is at its worst, communcations are most important…”

Sometimes a relationship gets ‘lost’ and accusations fly. It is in these dark times that relationships are under great strain, e.g. bridging cultural gaps or considering difficult issues. I am ready with acute couples counselling on short notice when the crisis is at its worst. If you’re both interested in couples counselling, you’re welcome to get in touch with me at mark@english-psychotherapist.dk

Couples psychotherapy

“… can thwart the problems that can damage the relationship…”

In couples psychotherapy, a space is provided for one of the most stressful and challenging areas of life. Instead of ‘walking the path alone’ couple psychotherapy can provide a much-needed opportunity to take ‘time out’ together with facilitation and support. If you’re both interested in couples therapy, feel free to contact me at mark@english-psychotherapist.dk

Skype psychotherapy

“… long distance work can become immediate and present through Skype…”

Sometimes Skype is the most beneficial way to conduct psychotherapy. This can be due to illness, paralysis or simply being too far away from my clinic to make the journey in times of crisis or travel. Experience shows that presence and warmth both ‘travel well’ over Skype, so the quality of therapy isn’t diminished. Get in touch at mark@english-psychotherapist.dk

Meditation classes in Copenhagen

“… guided meditations in English…”

I have been involved in meditation since 2003, and meditation has taught me lots on empathy, compassion and mindfulness. Meditation is also a great asset in learning how to establish and maintain healthy boundaries and to recognise issues surfacing in the unconscious. Meditation classes in English aren’t scheduled, but regularly run in Danish. Please find my Danish homepage on meditation here If you’d like to express an interest in meditation in English, get in in touch at mark@english-psychotherapist.dk

RELEVANT EDUCATION

Master of Arts (M.A.) i psykosyntese Psychotherapy at the University of East London

I am currently taking a Master of Arts if psychosynthesis psychotherapy at The University of East London. The full title is “Master of Arts in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy and Professional Accreditation” Psychotherapy training in England is far more thorough and demanding than in Denmark, resulting in a better education which in turn means offering you better support at greater depth. There are for example far more educational and supervision hours than in Denmark, as well as a dissertation that is approved by The University of East London. In connection with my studies I have achieved student membership of the BACP. An extract of their homepage shows that “As a Student Member of BACP I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, the Ethical Guidelines for Researching Counselling and Psychotherapy (where practitioners undertake research) and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure for the time being in force.” Furthermore I will be seeking membership of the UKCP as soon as my Master of Arts has been completed.

Individual Supervision

I receive individual supervision, which assures that ethical considerations, relational depth and awareness are assured. Going way beyond Danish guidelines I receive supervision for every 6 hours of therapy given. The goal of supervision to receive and oversight and assistance from a supervisor who typically has 20 years or more of experience. This professional support is held entirely confidential.

Further training in couples and family therapy

In a short while I shall attend a Master Class in couples and family therapy. This education is designed to specialise psychotherapists in family counselling, couples therapy and counselling as well as psychodynamics. There is an increasing demand for specialised psychotherapists who can guide and assist couples and families through one of the most difficult times in life – one that our society and culture ironically expects us to handle for the most parts alone.

Transpersonal Education

I feel that transpersonal psychotherapy is one of the most exciting and challenging in the psychotherapeutic field today. In 2008 I participated in Kenneth Sørensen’s exciting eduation program, one that specialises in transpersonal psychology, founded by Roberto Assagioli. Assagioli had a deep awareness of both Freud and Jung, yet felt that both approaches lacked a more soul oriented approach without losing the dynmaics of depth psychology. Assagioli styled an approach that is expressed through a unique combination of love and will.

Ethical guidelines

I follow the ethical guidelines set out by The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and you can access them here

Confidentiality

I offer you total confidentiality, except where Danish or European law stipulates. If I become aware of issues that bring the safety, growth or well-being of minors into question, I have a legal duty to inform the correct authorities. This also applies if I become aware of plans to harm yourself or others.
